Earlier this week we covered various reports from Germany that Jean-Philippe Gbamin was on his way to Everton from Mainz.
The midfielder was seemingly the Blues preferred replacement for Idrissa Gana Gueye, and all indications were that a move was imminent, with him likely to undergo a medical at some point this week.
Sky Sports reported that the midfielder was having that medical today, although there was a distinct lack of coverage from Germany on the subject.
Mainz local newspaper Allgemeine-Zeitung cover the move today, and while they don’t confirm a move is happening, they heavily hint it’s on the way.
The newspaper confirms that Gbamin returned from an extended holiday following the Africa Cup of Nations but will not join his teammates in training this afternoon. That hints that a move to Goodison Park is on the way.
Mainz director Rouven Schröder also comments on the move, saying the player is “dealing with his future” and “there are meticulous reasons” why the transfer has not been concluded as yet, with Allgemeine-Zeitung presuming its something to do with contract details.
Everything is pointing towards this one being concluded sooner rather than later, though, with all signs pointing to Gbamin finalising the move as soon as possible.
