L’Equipe’s digital edition hits the internet not long after midnight, and yet still on Friday they’ve managed to get in a report which claims Everton reached an agreement to sell Idrissa Gana Gueye on Thursday night.
The Premier League club had wanted to find a successor before agreeing to the transfer, and the French newspaper says they’ve done that with Jean Philippe Gbamin.
There were claims in Germany earlier this week that Everton were closing in on a deal for the Mainz player, although Thursday saw a stance from the player himself which suggested agent trouble could be on the way.
Nevertheless, L’Equipe believe it will be one in and one out at Goodison Park, with Gueye finally getting his PSG move. He’d wanted the switch in January, but Everton and the Paris club were unable to come to an agreement on transfer fee.
This time they have, and the amount is put at ‘around €32m’, and one would assume it’s likely a little more if any bonuses are taken into account.
Interestingly, L’Equipe state Everton ‘found his successor’ (Gbamin), ‘before even agreeing’ the Gueye sale, which suggests that one is pretty far down the line.
