This morning, we  covered a strong report from Portuguese newspaper O Jogo regarding Everton’s latest effort for Sporting midfielder Matheus Nunes.

It was claimed that after watching the player many times last season, the Toffees are now going to Lisbon to try and sign the player. There they could offer of €50m for the signing, and that amount would be enough for the Lions to sit and negotiate.

So while many Everton fans certainly read the news and asked if the Goodison Park side are really spending that much on Nunes, there are Portuguese outlets who doubt that investment.

As newspaper A Bola today features a piece claiming the Toffees ‘insist’ on chasing the 23-year-old, it’s claimed the club should not be able to convince either Sporting or the midfielder himself.

Recalling that Everton got to ‘nearly signing the player’ in the past, A Bola writes that the club ‘don’t seem able to reach the amount’ to land him, since Sporting want at least €45m to negotiate his exit this summer.

The outlet also claims the Toffees don’t seem to ‘present a sporting project capable of convincing the Portuguese international to move to England’.

That’s a lot of pessimism from A Bola, who also claim the likes of Newcastle and Wolverhampton Wanderers would have difficulty to attract Nunes. The midfielder is said to be focused on fighting for titles, as well as featuring in the Champions League.
