Everton are the latest club to ‘join the list of teams’ interested in a move for Valencia forward Goncalo Guedes this summer.
That’s according to Plaza Radio, relayed by Plaza Deportiva, who say the Toffees are ‘interested’ in the Portuguese winger.
Guedes has been widely linked with a move away from Valencia this summer, with the Spanish club keen to cash in on him after something of a disappointing season.
A move to Wolves seemed the most likely option given their love of Portuguese players and links to Jorge Mendes, who also happens to represent the player.
There are other suitors, though, and Plaza say Everton are one of them, with it stated they ‘join the bidding’ for the forward.
It’s claimed they are ‘keen on acquiring’ the Portuguese international, who Valencia are keen to move on.
They explain that although Guedes’ contract expires in 2024 and he has ‘emerged as the leader’ of the team at the end of the season, they need to make money this summer.
Guedes is one of the names they have put on the market, but they need to get a ‘minimum’ of €25m to make a profit.
That’s because his former club Paris Saint Germain included a ‘future transfer percentage’ as part of the original deal that took him to the Mestalla.
That ranges between 15 and 20 per cent, and so Valencia will only make a profit on anything above €25m.
The suggestion is any interested party, like Everton, will have to pay more than that to get their man but it is stated that may be difficult given the market is ‘weighed down’ by COVID-19.
It’s also further emphasised that Valencia desperately ‘need to sell’, meaning there is a deal there to be done if Marcel Brands works hard enough.
It’s well known by this point that he’s a solid negotiator on that front, and with Everton needing to add a winger and pace to their squad, both of which Guedes offers, this is a deal that could make plenty of sense.
