Back on Monday, a report in L’Equipe suggested that Everton could provide competition for Paris Saint-Germain in the battle to sign Adam Marušić from Lazio.
The Montenegro international has been a target for the Ligue 1 champions as they expect Thomas Meunier to leave on a free this summer, and with a price tag believed to be around €15m (according to the French newspaper), it isn’t surprising to see a few clubs sniffing about.
The Everton mention was brief, but it was enough to get the ball rolling around Europe, as Gazzetta dello Sport pick up on it on Thursday.
They appear to confirm the information revealed by L’Equipe, explaining the player ‘could go to the Premier League’, and namely to the Toffees as a ‘precise request’ from Carlo Ancelotti.
The Italian manager already appreciated what the attacking right-back had to offer when he was in charge at Napoli, but seeing off Paris Saint-Germain, who are also after Sergej Milinković-Savić, won’t be an easy feat.
Lazio, down their end, are considering their options, with one of them being a renewal of his contract, as Igli Tare has ‘readied’ the option of doing so, thinking about extending his current deal for three years, until 2025.
As things stand, Marušić is tied down until 2022, meaning we’re getting to the stage where the Serie A side have to start thinking about what they want to do.
Regarding that €15m fee mentioned by L’Equipe, Gazzetta reckon the Montenegrin will be a tad more expensive than that, as they feel Lazio will want to start at around €20m instead.
Still very affordable for Everton regardless, and it’s something worth keeping an eye on in the coming days and weeks.
