Way back on March 4th, SportBild reported Borussia Dortmund had ‘won the race’ for Jude Bellingham, and would be paying Birmingham City around €35m for the player.

There was confidence the Bundesliga club had beaten competition from Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Not long after, local Dortmund newspaper Ruhr Nachrichten, who tend to be less sensationalist and have good sources at BVB, claimed it was probable that only training compensation would be paid for the 16 year old.

They make the same claim this week. In an article looking at how much impact Jadon Sancho leaving or not will have on the German club’s summer transfers, it’s stated that a couple of moves are already in the pipeline.

Signing Thomas Meunier from PSG on a free transfer, and getting Bellingham from Birmingham City. For the latter they’ve already prepared ‘tens of millions’ to send to the Championship club as ‘training allowance’.

Of course, the Birmingham slant would be different, yet it’s still interesting to note this is what continues to be reported in BVB’s local newspaper.
