Aston Villa’s Enzo Barrenechea has been training this week with strapping on his left shoulder.

It wasn’t thought to be a big issue, with the midfielder expected to be part of Valencia’s squad for the very long away trip to Las Palmas this weekend.

However, in the final training session on Friday, Enzo Barrenechea left the group early and went indoors. Spanish journalist Gerard Munoz was watching and reported it as a withdrawal, with the insinuation he was doubtful for the trip to Gran Canaria.

That spread throughout the Spanish media, but Moreno then spoke to Valencia manager Carlos Corberán, who insisted his player is fine. It’s now being put down as a ‘scare’, without any further details.

Earlier, another Spanish journalist, Pedro Morata, stated Aston Villa have made a decision on the player’s future. It’s claimed they want to sell him in the summer and if they can’t manage that then a loan to a club playing in a European competition (presumably one of CL, EL or Conference, rather than simply a league in Europe) is the next step. That rules out Valencia.

That contradicts claims from a few days ago which stated Aston Villa want Unai Emery to have another look at him in the summer, before making any transfer decision.

Nothing ever seems simple around Enzo Barrenechea.
