Last month, we relayed news from Spain that Rafael Benitez wants Everton to sign RCD Mallorca’s Iddrisu Baba in the winter market.
The Toffees’ interest in the Ghana international is now being highlighted in his homeland. According to Football Ghana, the Merseyside club have ‘intensified their pursuit’ of the 25-year-old and have carried out ‘additional enquires’ over his availability in the next window.
It’s even claimed the Premier League side are joined by Atlético Madrid, as the La Liga winners are also looking at the midfielder.
Baba will miss Mallorca’s matches at the start of next year because of his participation in the Africa Cup of Nations. The website states it’s not clear where he will play after returning from the continental tournament.
Over at Ghana Soccernet, they explain the player has a €45m release clause. Everton and Diego Simeone’s side are mentioned when discussing clubs interested in the former Leganés man.
They further add Baba is a ‘long-time target’ for Benitez and the Spaniard tried to sign him during his brief spell at Real Madrid.
Last month, La Razón explained Everton’s intention is to sign the midfielder for a lower price and Mallorca are ‘open to negotiate’ for less than €45m.
