Earlier this week, we covered a story in France Football regarding the future of Thomas Meunier, who appears to be on his way out from Paris Saint-Germain.
While Manchester United have been the most consistently linked with the Belgium international, mostly due to the fact Ashley Young is their current right-back, Arsenal were also thrown into the mix.
The French magazine stated the Gunners had the defender ‘in their sights’, recalling that Unai Emery used Meunier a fair bit during his time as Paris Saint-Germain’s manager.
A bit later in the week, Italian journalist Nicolo Schira went all out by claiming Arsenal were in ‘advanced talks’ with the Ligue 1 champions, had offered the right-back a ‘five-year deal’ and the two clubs ‘should finalise’ the deal.
That was on Thursday morning, and Friday saw journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who specialises in Belgian football, claim talks between Unai Emery and Thomas Meunier had been ongoing for ‘a good month’, with ‘whispers’ that a contract offer had even been presented to the player.
Furthermore, the Belgian was said to be ‘enthusiastic’ at the idea of joining the Gunners, but, as things stood, ‘no agreement’ had been reached between the two clubs.
Paris United then jumped in on the whole thing, replying to Tavolieri by confirming there was a ‘real mutual interest’ to get a deal done.
So, that’s where we stand on the 27-year-old’s future for now, with concurring sources around Europe talking about a potential move to the Emirates.
We’ll have to wait and see if Manchester United make a move, as they may hold the upper hand going forward if they do, being Meunier’s favourite team and all.
