This morning, we covered Portuguese newspaper Record claiming Wolverhampton Wanderers are close to landing João Palhinha. It was claimed Sporting and Wolves have an agreement in principle for €20m.
It turns out that information had also been brought on Thursday evening by CMTV, where it was actually said Wolves could make a double signing from the Lions.
As covered by Correio da Manhã, a newspaper from the same media group, João Palhinha and Matheus Nunes are both ‘close to reinforcing’ the Molineux side.
Wolves are paying €20m, plus €5m in bonuses, for the first, while the latter could move for €40m.
As usual, we went to check what was actually said on CMTV. There they had pundit Paulo Catarro, who backed up the stance of an agreed €20m deal for Palhinha, as the player had already shown his desire of playing in the Premier League.
He also stated Nunes ‘should’ take the same path, for as much as €40m. Wolves were not mentioned specifically, but the assumption from those watching, and matching with other Portuguese reports, is that he was referring to Bruno Lage’s side.
With Correio da Manhã and CMTV being partners, we’re trusting the newspaper’s coverage, and Wolverhampton may indeed be close to landing the duo.
