Spanish attacker Suso has been in impressive form for AC Milan this season, with two goals and four assists so far.
The 22-year-old started out at Spanish team Cadiz, before moving to the Liverpool academy in 2010.
A lot was expected from Suso at Liverpool, as he started to make a name for himself in Merseyside alongside Raheem Sterling in the youth team matches.
While Raheem Sterling made his £49m move to Manchester City, Suso struggled to make an impact in the Liverpool team under Brendan Rodgers and was dispatched to AC Milan for just £1m.
AC Milan’s director of sport Rocco Maiorino has been speaking to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, and was asked about the impact Suso has made this season.
He said: “I knew him when he played in Spain’s youth teams, I had seen in Estonia in the Under-19 final, and in particular I was impressed against Portugal.”
Maiorino claimed he enjoyed good relations with Suso’s agent, who informed him there was an opportunity to sign him from Liverpool.
He added: “The agent with whom I had very good relations told me that there was the ‘opportunity to take him from Liverpool’, so I immediately tried to convince Galliani.
“It might seem a risky move to go get a player that Liverpool let go considering he had done little in the first team. Instead, he took a few months to adapt to become the player he is today.”
Liverpool fans were certainly disappointed when Suso was allowed to leave, as a lot was expected of him, and many felt he wasn’t given a fair chance to prove himself at the Merseyside club.
