Ajax were keen on signing Steven Bergwijn from Tottenham Hotspur in the winter market but were unable to find an agreement with the Premier League side.
The Eredivisie winners returned for the forward in the summer and this time, they were successful in convincing Spurs to let go of him.
Since leaving Tottenham, the 24-year-old has enjoyed more game time and has starred for his new club, where he has seven goals from six matches in all competitions so far.
Meanwhile, the Netherlands international managed four goals and two assists from 32 games for the north London club last campaign, as he spent more time on the bench after Antonio Conte arrived at Tottenham.
When discussing his good start at Ajax, Bergwijn said: “I’ve always had the ability to score. But if you don’t play, it’s hard to show that.”
“I’m not working on that [being the top scorer this season]. I don’t have a certain number of goals in my head that I should achieve. The most important thing is to continue like this. I look at the complete picture and just want win.”
The Dutchman has overcome his struggles at Tottenham at Ajax and is now beginning to impress for them.
