Making a very late attempt to acquire Timothy Fosu-Mensah from Manchester United back in January, Lazio were turned down by the defender, who was then on loan at Fulham.

The 21-year-old, currently recovering from cruciate ligament surgery, decided to stay with the London club, where he made 13 appearances in all competitions, mostly at right-back.

Next up for the Dutchman will be finding out whether or not he features in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans for next season, and if he doesn’t, he might need to start considering a more permanent future elsewhere.

Should that happen, Lazio would still welcome him with open arms, as Il Messaggero explain that Igli Tare, the club’s director of football, ‘wants to contact’ the defender ‘again’ after their failed January bid.

It’s not explained if the Serie A side’s return would be for a loan or a permanent deal, but considering they are also looking at Kenny Lala (who wouldn’t leave Strasbourg on a temporary deal), we’re going to edge towards it being the latter.

A lot will likely rest on what Solskjaer plans to do with the 21-year-old, as the Manchester United manager has made it clear he would like to rely on youth more.

We’ll see.
