Jakub Kiwior was one of the new players to arrive at Arsenal in the January window.
The north London club took the defender from Spezia and handed him a long-term contract.
Prior to joining Arsenal, the 22-year-old was subjected to interest from top Serie A clubs like Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Napoli. This is now revealed by his agent, Sasha Baranov, during an interview with TV Play.
After detailing why several Italian clubs were not successful in securing the centre-back’s services in the winter market, the representative talked about the Gunners’ approach.
“We thought the boy deserved an important team, with all due respect to Bologna, the boy couldn’t go to a team like Bologna,” he said, as quoted by Calcio in Pillole.
The Poland international’s initial plan was to finish the season at Spezia. The agent has explained what convinced his client to accept Arsenal’s offer in January.
“I didn’t think it would be so fast, I’m honest we didn’t think he would leave in January, we were thinking more from a summer perspective, thinking of staying in La Spezia until June. Arsenal then arrived, the boy didn’t put pressure, he said that if it could get done, fine, otherwise he would have waited,” he added.
Kiwior has not yet made his debut for Arsenal but was in the squad during their FA Cup defeat to Manchester City last Friday.
Gabriel Magalhães and William Saliba are the first choice centre-back pairing for Mikel Arteta and this makes it difficult for the Pole, at least immediately, to make into Arsenal’s starting XI.
