Despite signing Isaac Success from Granada CF in 2016 for £13.5m with a lot of expectation, the Nigerian forward never lived up to his name (literally) during his time at Watford.
The now 26-year-old only ever managed 72 appearances for the Hornets during his time at Vicarage Road, which spanned five years, broken up by a six month loan to Malaga in 2018.
He scored six goals and assisted another five in that time, but was eventually sold to Udinese, Watford’s sister club in Italy, last summer for a measly £1m and a bit.
He’s enjoyed himself a bit more in Italy, scoring two goals and assisting another seven in 18 appearances there, which is partly why the player sat down with Gazzetta dello Sport to discuss his career to date, including his spell at Watford when he was asked if a move to Serie A was a step backwards for him.
He said: “The Premier League is certainly the most coveted league today. It’s stimulating. 90% of layers want to play at the level they have there, but it didn’t go well at Watford because I was also unlucky. Too many injuries. Ankle, tendon, muscle problems. I wanted to test myself in the Serie A and I wanted to be grateful to Gino for what he did for me. And I came to Udine.”
The former Watford man was then asked how he fit in, where he admitted that teaming up with so many ex-Vicarage Road stars helped him settle in.
The likes of Gerard Deulofeu, Ignacio Pussetto and Roberto Pereyra are all there, and they ‘explained everything to him’.
