Steve Mandanda is getting a little worried. Crystal Palace and Marseille seem no closer to sorting out his transfer situation, and there’s a refusal to budge from both sides.
Mandanda himself first started talking to Marseille again in December, explain L’Equipe, and by Febraury he’d agreed the outline terms of a return to the French club. However, all that is useless unless a fee can be agreed with Marseille.
L’Equipe report in their Sunday edition that Crystal Palace want €5m, and Marseille don’t want to go over €2m. It’s possible to see why each side feels they have a case. Mandanda was pretty much ostracised by Sam Allardyce, injury or not, and left in no doubt that he wasn’t the club’s undisputed number one.
Unless something drastic changes, like the club’s new manager realising Mandanda is of course a far superior goalkeeper to Wayne Hennessey, and putting complete faith in him, then a move looks nailed on.
There’s been rumours of interest from other French clubs, but Mandanda wants Marseille. He’s on holiday right now, guess where? Marseille, of course. The goalkeeper would prefer to stay with his family, rather than return to Crystal Palace, and an agreement being found would be best for all.
