Mateusz Klich’s time at Leeds United came to an end in the winter market after having joined them from FC Twente in 2017.

The midfielder struggled to have prominence under Jesse Marsch this season and this saw him join Major League Soccer side DC United on January 13th.

Klich featured 16 times in all competitions this season for Leeds and it included only two starts, with both of them coming in the EFL Cup.

The Poland international was restricted to a substitute’s role in the league and it resulted in him being left out of the national team squad for the World Cup.

Lack of prominence with the Whites saw the 32-year-old leave them, weeks before Leeds sacked Marsch on February 6th. Klich appeared as the guest on Jej Wysokość Premier League, where he admitted there was a possibility for him to continue at the English club.

“I certainly could have stayed in the Premier League and waited to see what the future brought. There has been a change of manager at Leeds United. But I wanted to play a lot and I wasn’t happy with ten or fifteen minutes,” he said, relayed by Transfery.info.

“I want to be an important part of the team. It was evident during the season when we had our problems and I still didn’t start games in the first team. There were various ideas and finally I decided to transfer to the United States. It’s a tough decision, but I like playing football so much that I don’t enjoy sitting on the bench.”

Klich has made three starts for DC United and scored one goal, which came in his debut against Toronto FC.
