Copenhagen forward Mohamed Elyounoussi has criticised Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes for his efforts to influence the referee in last night’s 4-3 defeat.
Elyounoussi has been speaking to TV2, relayed by Fotbollskanalen after he ended up in an ‘exchange of words’ with the Portuguese midfielder in the meeting between the two teams.
Copenhagen beat Manchester United 4-3 in an end-to-end game that saw two penalties and Marcus Rashford sent off, as well as Copenhagen coming from 2-0 down to eventually win the game.
It was the latest disappointing defeat for Erik ten Hag’s side, who once again appeared to collapse when the slightest bit of pressure was put on them.
It leaves them hanging by a thread in the Champions League group stages, leading to further frustration in what is already a highly disappointing campaign.
That frustration was born out in the game, with several Manchester United players complaining to the referee over decisions being made against them.
Captain Bruno Fernandes was one of them, exchanging his views with the referee when Copenhagen were handed a first-half penalty, something which later saw him being confronted by Elyounoussi, who was less than impressed.
He’s now explained what caused the incident with the Manchester United star, detailing his side of what went on.
“I think everyone who has seen United and who has seen him knows that he is a player who is always with the referees complaining and whining,” he said.
“I tried to get him away from the referee. I said: “It’s done”. It was nothing more than that. I don’t like players who go forward and try to influence the referees.”
