PSV Eindhoven’s decision to let Carlos Vinicius join Fulham this summer has been labelled as ‘strange’ as it has left the Dutch side short in attacking options.

Vinicius was one of several new arrivals at Fulham this summer, arriving in a deadline day move from PSV for €5m.

The move came as something of a surprise one given, he was still on loan with the Dutch side from Benfica, who initially let him leave in August last year.

That was due to run until next year, but the Eredivisie side were more than happy to break that agreement and send him to Fulham.

On the face of it that made deal given the Brazilian only managed seven goals and seven assists in 38 games for the club.

His departure, though, means that PSV have been left with Luuk de Jong as their only recognised centre-forward this season and for journalist Wim Kieft, that was an odd choice to make.

“Strange that the club management let Carlos Vinicius go,” MSN report him saying.

“He came up short at PSV but is comparable to De Jong. Vertessen is nothing like that and can only be played out wide.”
