Real Betis will be keeping a close eye on Leeds United’s clash with Norwich City this evening, as it is key to their plans around midfielder Marc Roca.

That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say that while Betis are taking on Las Palmas to secure a place in Europe next season, they will firmly have an eye on what’s going on at Elland Road.

Leeds take on Norwich in the second leg of their play-off semi-final clash following the 0-0 draw between the two sides in the first leg.

Daniel Farke’s side still have a hope of returning to the Premier League at the first time of asking and if they can do so, that will heavily determine what happens with Roca this summer.

He’s been on loan with Betis since the summer and established himself as a key player under Manuel Pellegrini, and the Spanish side are keen to get him on a permanent basis.

They’re less keen, though, to pay the purchase clause they agreed with Leeds last summer and that’s where tonight’s game comes into play.

If Leeds lose to Norwich and miss out on a place in the play-off final, and thus the chance to return to the Premier League, that will allow Roca to activate a clause in his current contract to allow him to leave Leeds on loan again.

He used that clause to get to Betis in the summer and they’d be delighted if he can do so again so they can spend their limited funds elsewhere.

Betis already have an agreement with the midfielder to stay next season, but their finances mean if they can avoid paying for the Spaniard, they will do so.

The best thing for them would be Leeds missing out on promotion so they can use the loan clause for next season, hence why they will be keeping such a close eye on matters at Elland Road.
