Giovani Lo Celso’s future at Villarreal is in doubt as the Spanish side need to negotiate a deal with Tottenham and already have an alternate player to the Argentine lined up.

That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say that Villarreal’s impending deal for RC Celta’s Denis Suárez could end up impacting the Tottenham loanee.

They explain that the Spanish side are ‘preparing thoroughly’ for next season and already have an agreement in place with Suárez, who will be available on a free in the summer.

That could have ‘consequences’ on Lo Celso, whose place would be taken by the newcomer, thus leading to doubts about a permanent move.

The La Liga side know that they ‘will have to negotiate’ with Tottenham over a transfer after failing to secure a purchase clause in the loan deal they agreed in the summer.

They are also aware that Spurs want ‘around €20m’ for the Argentine international, with the Premier League side making it clear that was their selling price ‘months ago.’

That’s a price Villarreal could only afford if their current season was ‘perfect’, and they qualify for either the Europa League or Champions League or if they were able to secure a ‘big sale’ for one of their young stars such as Pau Torres or Yeremy Pino.

As that is unknown, so is what happens to Lo Celso, whose future ‘has not been clear’ for a few months and is getting more obscure with the potential arrival of Suárez.
