Links between Alvaro Negredo and West Brom have been warmly welcomed in Valencia. The Spanish club signed Negredo from Manchester City for €30m, and have regretted since before the ink dried.
They overpaid, and put Negredo on too high wages. That then served to ruin any real prospect of the forward doing well at Valencia, because it clearly became clear it was a mess of a deal, and a cloud has hung over the player since.
A loan season with Middlesbrough wasn’t disastrous, but wasn’t a runaway success either. Now the 31 year old is again Valencia’s problem, along with his contract until 2019.
The best thing for Negredo is clean break from Valencia, and West Brom likely feel they could put pressure on for a reduced fee. A very reduced fee.
Valencia may start by asking for around €20m, but Negredo has already rejected moves to Turkey and Greece because he wants the Premier League, and West Brom could gradually turn the screw.
However, Marca say Valencia haven’t heard a thing from West Brom yet, so it could be all from someone’s imagination.
Only time will tell, and Valencia are willing the telephone to ring.
