Real Sociedad could make a move for Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso after David Silva was forced to retire yesterday.

That’s according to AS who say Spanish side have the ‘obligatory task’ of finding a replacement for the veteran midfielder.

Silva was forced into retirement yesterday after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his left knee, taking the decision to bring an end to his career rather than battle back at 37-years-old.

Real Sociedad now need to find a replacement and while there are several options in their current squad, they may also look to Europe.

That’s where Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso comes into it as AS say that ‘without a doubt’ he is ‘the most similar’ player to Silva on the market.

His style of play is considered close to Silva’s and, thanks to him not necessarily being a part of Tottenham’s plans moving forwards after he spent the last two years out on loan, he is a ‘very viable option’ to replace the veteran.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou may have stated he wants the Argentine as part of his squad this season, but the reality is that Tottenham ‘would not close the door’ if they were to receive a ‘good offer’ for the Argentine.

Whether that will come from La Real remains to be seen but they are now in the market for a midfielder of his type thanks to Silva’s unplanned retirement.
