AS Saint-Etienne appear set to triple their money on defender Niels Nkounkou, just weeks after buying him from Everton.

That’s according to BUT! Football Club, who say the full-back us ‘heading for a departure’ from the French club despite only joining them on a permanent basis at the beginning of this month.

Nkounkou was the ‘great revelation’ for Saint-Etienne last season, establishing himself as a star of the team during a loan spell from Everton in the second half of the season.

They quicky exercised an option to buy him on a permanent basis for €2m but the belief is that he will not feature for the Ligue 2 side ever again.

That’s because Eintracht Frankfurt have offered between €6-7m to secure his services this summer, a bid that has been refused by Saint-Etienne’s board for now.

Nkounkou has made it clear he would like to leave, though, and according to the website’s information, Saint-Etienne will not stand in his way either.

Nkounkou is due to return to training next Wednesday but those in charge at the club won’t be too greedy and are content to make a ‘nice little’ profit on him this summer.

That’ll presumably frustrate Everton, who must be deeply regretting including that €2m purchase clause in January as it’s come back to bite them a few months later.
