Monaco have reignited their interest in Leicester City midfielder Boubakary Soumaré after a failed deal for Neil El Aynaoui.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who report that the Principality club have again turned their attention to the Leicester man as they continue build this summer.

They explain that Monaco are keen to strengthen this summer after a second placed finish in Ligue 1 last season and the centre of midfield needs attention, particularly as they could lose Youssouf Fofana.

El Aynaoui had been identified as the priority target, but that deal is set to be cancelled after Monaco discovered a knee issue during his medical that will see him miss eight months of the season if he undergoes surgery as expected.

Thus, Monaco have had to go back to the drawing board and one of the names on there is Leicester’s Boubakary Soumaré.

He’s returned to the Foxes from a successful loan spell at Sevilla last season, something which the Ligue 1 side were watching with interest.

They’ve not ‘established serious contacts’ with the player’s entourage in the last few years, reviving their interest in him from 2022 when he was a possible replacement for Aurélien Tchouaméni.

There’s been no contact with Leicester as yet but, if the response from the player and his entourage is a positive one, that could change quickly as Monaco look to move on from the disappointment of missing out on Aynaoui.
