With The Athletic this week detailing Arsenal’s interest in Benfica midfielder João Neves, the response from the Portuguese media isn’t very optimistic.
Newspaper Correio da Manhã today shares a story claiming the Eagles are ready to resist summer offers, and won’t let him leave for less than €120m.
It’s said Benfica decided that Antonio Silva is the only ‘big business’ they’re expecting this summer, and that’s why they’ve been rejecting all offers for Neves.
Following Arsenal’s reported interest in the midfielder, it’s said that club president Rui Costa is willing to ‘do everything’ to keep the player satisfied at the club.
That’s why, despite Neves’ contract running until 2028, they’re already preparing a new deal which includes a ‘substantial’ pay rise.
Besides the problem with the 19-year-old’s price, it’s worth recalling that earlier this week, it had already been reported that Manchester United made an attempt for his signing, increasing the competition for him.
This will be a difficult one for Arsenal, or anyone else, to secure this summer and they may be better looking elsewhere.
