Royale Union Saint-Gilloise president Alex Muzio has insisted there will be no issues next season if his side and Brighton & Hove Albion both qualify for Europe.
The Belgian side are currently second in the Jupiler Pro League and just five points behind leaders Genk, but have a huge lead on Club Brugge in fourth.
Therefore, they look very likely to qualify for Europe next season, which could also happen if they continue their fine run in the Europa League, having qualified for the quarter finals after an impressive win over Union Berlin in the last 16.
The prospect of qualification has raised a potential problem, though, as sister club Brighton are also on course to qualify for Europe next season.
That would mean an issue thanks to UEFA rules which state clubs owned by the same people cannot compete in the same tournament under fair play rules.
That’s not really an issue according to Muzio, though, who has insisted he and Brighton owner Tony Bloom did their research before investing in the Belgian side.
“Before Tony and I invested in this club, we looked into that, looked at all the UEFA rules,” he told Sporza.
“We also talked to them then and in our opinion there is no problem. It’s just that UEFA only shoots into action when it’s effectively there.
“Otherwise they have to do that for maybe 50 clubs, because there are more investors who own multiple clubs.”
