Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk suffered a hamstring injury in his side’s defeat to Brentford and his return date has not been given so far.

If Van Dijk’s injury is worse than expected, then the Reds could be forced to look for a new centre-back if he can’t return to pitch soon.

In this event, Liverpool could decide to immediately ask Inter Milan for Milan Škriniar, investing around €40m to sign him in the winter market.

That’s at least what InterLive.it are stating and add the Serie A side ‘may feel compelled’ to sit down with Liverpool to ‘listen to their offer’ for the defender. This is because of his contract situation.

The Slovak international’s contract runs down at the end of this season and Inter chief Giuseppe Marotta has already confirmed they have offered him the best deal.

Without an extension, the January window will be the Nerazzurri’s last chance to cash in from his sale to avoid the star leave for free next summer. On the other hand, losing Škriniar this month would be a sporting blow for the second half of this season.

Marotta could take advantage of Van Dijk’s situation at Liverpool to fuel an auction for Škriniar, but this may only be possible if the Dutchman ends up being out for a long time.
