Several newspapers in Portugal this morning claimed Wolverhampton Wanderers are about to complete the signing of Rodrigo Gomes from Braga, and those claims were then followed in England.
Jornal de Notícias reported the player is close to leaving his club and sign a five-year deal with the Molineux side.
They make it clear the deal isn’t completely done for now, but Wolves surpassed Atletico Madrid in the race and will sign the player for €15m.
Meanwhile, newspaper Record also says Wolves have ‘practically everything agreed’ to complete the transfer, as the Colchoneros seem to be left behind. It’s said his transfer seems imminent, as the English side had been interested in him since the start of the season and had already tried the signing in January.
It’s said that when it was reported that the player was being sold to Atletico Madrid, that was just a move from the Portuguese side to draw Wolves’ attention, convincing them to place their bid.
Now that Braga have an agreement with Wolves, they still have a slight hope that the La Liga side will show up with more money, although that’s not a big possibility.
Gomes is expected to have his medical with the Molineux side in the coming days, and join the other Portuguese players in the squad.
