Olivier Giroud just can’t be kept down. The striker has faced repeated doubts at both club and international level, yet he continues fighting back to show his importance.
Having reportedly wanted to leave Chelsea during the winter 2020 market, Frank Lampard kept the striker at the club and he went on to score eight Premier League goals in the second half of the season, and that’s despite not playing the full 90 minutes on any occasion.
Giroud was keen to make it to France’s Euro 2020 squad, with Didier Deschamps likely to pick the player if he’d shown enough for Chelsea. That dream ended up void, with the tournament delayed for a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Now the player finds himself in the same situation, with multiple claims already about a January exit. Giroud has had just 47 minutes of Premier League action so far this season. He’s had a minute more in the Champions League, and managed to score a winner against Rennes on Tuesday.
FCInterNews report that a move to Inter Milan is in the works for January, but their idea of price seems way off. The report states Antonio Conte’s side are ‘studying’ a move similar to what got them Ashley Young from Manchester United.
It’s thought Chelsea could ‘free’ Giroud for just €2m, yet given his impact midweek, and during the second half of last season, it wouldn’t make a great deal of sense for Frank Lampard to deprive himself of the option for so little money.
