While Watford currently have to deal with the mess that appears to be the signing of Pape Gueye, the Premier League club will have another delicate situation to sort out once the seasons around Europe come to an end.
We’re talking about the future of Luis Suárez, currently out on loan at Real Zaragoza where he is attracting a lot of interest from big Spanish sides.
As was first reported by Superdeporte and now confirmed by El Desmarque, Valencia are keen on the Colombian striker, who has 17 goals to his name in 30 appearances for the La Liga2 side this season.
The website go a bit further in their article on Friday, explaining that Valencia have gone as far as making their interest known to Watford, who are now ‘aware’ of it.
It’s stated Atlético Madrid and Real Betis have also ‘gotten closer’ to the forward, while the names of Napoli and Lazio are mentioned, but the bit about the Serie A sides isn’t a confirmation from the outlet, it’s just them merely relaying what has been said elsewhere.
Over at Real Zaragoza, the club’s director of sports has explained ‘Luis Suárez’s situation is the most complicated’ since he has ‘awakened the interest of very strong clubs’.
However, he maintains the ‘final word’ will be Watford’s and everyone at the club is simply ‘waiting’ for whatever happens next.
As for Watford, it’s believed by El Desmarque that relegation down to the Championship could force them to sell Suárez, who would be unlikely to have any interest of featuring in England’s second-tier.
In fact, Zaragoza’s director added, relayed by Superdeporte: “The idea is that he plays in the Premier League. If they don’t sell him and he doesn’t stay at Watford, I have the feeling that if he leaves again on loan, his destination will be Zaragoza”.
The Hornets aren’t in the relegation zone as things stand, so if the season is called off and the standings remain as they are, this wouldn’t be a worry, but if the campaign is resumed down the line, then who knows what could happen?
