On September 22nd, we carried a report from Mundo Deportivo, who explained that Arsenal’s Lucas Torreira is ‘crazy’ to join Atlético Madrid.

It was also stated the Gunners are not making it easy for the La Liga side to sign the midfielder because of their reluctance to allow Thomas Partey to join the north London club.

Mikel Arteta’s side are interested in the Ghana international, but Atlético have been referring to his €50m release clause.

Wednesday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo explains Torreira is an ‘old obsession’ for Atlético as their scouts watched him closely on numerous occasions while he was in Italy.

The report also covers Atlético’s failed efforts to sign the 24-year-old before he joined Arsenal from Sampdoria in 2018.

Diego Simeone’s side can make another effort to sign the Gunners player this summer, but they must ‘obviously’ cut ties with one of their own midfielders before making an effort to land Torreira.

It’s claimed that Héctor Herrera is the ‘chosen one’ to leave and FC Porto are interested to take him back.

The other player who could leave is Thomas Partey, and according to Mundo, the Ghanaian ‘could be part of the operation’ to bring Torreira to Atlético.

Arsenal are ‘reluctant’ to accept Atlético’s current conditions, which is a loan deal with a purchase option.

The possibility of Thomas, with Arsenal presumably then sending Torreira plus cash, could work for Arteta.
