Atletico Madrid have made an enquiry about Antony and signing him from Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

That’s according to journalist Marcos Benito on El Chiringuito, who reports that Atletico Madrid have asked about the Brazilian thanks to his excellent performances at Real Betis.

Antony has been shining in Spain since joining Betis on loan from Manchester United in the January transfer window.

He had hoped to get his career back on track in La Liga after a miserable few years at Manchester United following his massive move from Ajax.

He’s managed to do that, with five goals and four assists in 18 games in all competitions to date, with his latest strike coming in the 2-1 win over Fiorentina in the UEFA Conference League semi-finals.

The praise and plaudits have been plentiful as a result and set up an interesting summer transfer window, in which Betis seem destined to do everything they can to get him on a permanent basis.

They could face competition, though, because Benito reports that Atletico Madrid are now interested and have already made inquiries about a potential transfer.

“I’m told, or was told yesterday, that the Atletico Madrid has set his sights on a Brazilian winger,” he said.

“They told me they’ve had their eye on Antony, a favourite at Betis, asked to be signed from Manchester United.

“They also tell me they’d be willing to sell him for a figure of around €40-50m and that the Atletico Madrid have already enquired about him.”
