Everton target Merlin Röhl is seen as the next major departure for the club, hence them seeing two bids rejected in the January transfer window.
That’s according to SportBILD, who add more information to the report from earlier this week about Everton’s rejected bids.
That report explained that Everton had seen two bids rejected for Röhl as they tried to strengthen their squad at the end of the January transfer window.
Everton are believed to be among several suitors in the Premier League for the 22-year-old, with Liverpool, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United keeping an eye on him.
It is the Toffees who made the first move for him, though, seeing two bids rejected by Freiburg. The nature of those bids was not made clear.
SportBILD don’t provide that today but do say that the German U21 international is seen as a player who has the potential to be Freiburg’s ‘next top transfer’.
They’ve already secured big fees in the past, selling Kevin Schade to Brentford to Brentford for €25m in 2023 and Çağlar Söyüncü to Leicester for €21.1m in 2018. Freiburg are now eyeing a similar deal for Röhl, and it seems Everton will have to dig deep if they return with a third bid.
