On August 31st, Cadena Ser’s El Larguero explained Everton are interested in Villarreal’s Samuel Chukwueze.
Later that day, Marca and El Periódico Mediterráneo stated the Toffees have contacted the La Liga side for the winger.
This was backed up by Mundo Deportivo, who then added Everton and the Yellow Submarine had an agreement in principle for the transfer of Chukwueze, on a loan deal with a mandatory purchase option.
AS on Thursday relay the two clubs have been in contact for the Nigeria international’s transfer. They further add Unai Emery’s side are aware of the Merseyside club’s huge interest in the attacker.
After the first contact between Everton and the Spanish club, the two parties have been open to sit down to negotiate. In fact, the latter ‘expect an offer’ of ‘high amounts’ from Frank Lampard’s side to arrive in the ‘last hours of the market’.
Villarreal are living a frantic hours, but are aware that Everton will launch an offensive to sign Chukwueze. He had a €100m release clause, which reduced to €80m in his third season at the club.
This puts Villarreal in a strong position, but they would be open to selling the player to Everton, if they were to receive a ‘good offer’.
It’s to be noted AS don’t specify as to what would be considered as a ‘good offer’ by Villarreal, but it is likely to be much lower than Chukwueze’s €80m clause.
