AC Milan have ruled out a move for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, with Liverpool striker Divock Origi instead in their focus.
That’s according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, who explain that a move for Lukaku is extremely unlikely despite an incoming takeover at the Italian giants.
They say that ‘the London rumour’ that Milan are interested in Lukaku is just the latest in many that have emerged in recent days, and it certainly won’t be the last.
That’s because of the imminent arrival of Bahrain-based Investcorp at the San Siro, something which is ‘whetting the appetites’ of ‘market hawks’.
That is why Lukaku’s name has emerged in recent weeks, with him potentially departing Chelsea following a difficult year back at the club.
The idea of an approach for him has come out of nowhere, but the reality is that those in charge at Via Aldo Rossi have ‘other names on their agenda’.
In particular, they are waiting ‘for the right moment’ to ‘define the agreements’ with Divock Origi, who will arrive on a free transfer from Liverpool. They are also exploring the idea of a move for Gianluca Scamacca.
Milan chiefs Maldini and Massara would prefer to sign young Italian stars for the future, like Scamacca, and this is why Lukaku has ‘never been on their agenda’.
Indeed, they think the striker is likely to have a ‘prohibitive’ asking price, given Chelsea paid €115m for him last summer. The player has also made it clear he would not join Milan because of his loyalty to Inter. Thus, the question of a move is ‘deadlocked’.
Milan are instead focusing their efforts on Liverpool and Origi in particular, who is one step from finalising his deal to move from Anfield in the summer.
