Despite being loaned to Birmingham City for the second half of the campaign, Yan Valery hasn’t lost the stock he’d previously gained as a regular for Southampton.
The right-back, whose contract at St Mary’s expires in 2023, is said to have caught the eye of Marseille in France, as well as a couple of other clubs.
Foot Mercato are the ones reporting it, claiming that Pablo Longoria, the club’s president, had ‘seriously thought about recruiting him in January’, and has since remained aware of his performances.
They state he could ‘position himself depending on the exits in his team, starting with Hiroki Sakai’.
While Marseille want to buy Pol Lirola from Fiorentina if they can by triggering his release clause, Longoria isn’t ruling out bringing in a second right-back.
Valery is said to have ‘everything required for the perfect profile at Marseille’, who could face competition from the likes of Borussia Mönchengladbach and Newcastle.
