When Manchester United announced the huge deal to sign Antony from Ajax, there was a big reason for Brazilian side São Paulo to celebrate.
The club would naturally get a percentage for the transfer for being his academy in the early days, and on top of that, they also the right of 20% of the Dutch’s profit with the move, which was a total of around R$100m (£17m).
Since São Paulo are in need of paying debts, they were in a hurry to get that money, and reportedly even asked Manchester United to bring the first payment forward, even though it’s being paid over five years.
It’s said they got around R$35m (around £6m), which is the transfer’s first instalment as well as the solidarity mechanism.
São Paulo are now paying their debts and are thinking of anticipating one more of those five instalments.
However, instead of asking that to Manchester United, their idea is to use a bank and get the money as a loan until the Red Devils pay them the money they owe them next year.
