Struggling to break through at Manchester United, there was a need for Diogo Dalot to go somewhere on loan to get minutes under his belt.

After rumours sending him to Paris Saint-Germain, the Portuguese full-back eventually landed in Milan on loan for the current season, where he appears to be enjoying himself.

Much like Brahim Diaz, the 21-year-old hasn’t taken long to have an impact in Stefano Pioli’s plans, playing the full 90 minutes in both Europa League ties against Celtic and Sparta Prague.

That’s already led to speculation he could stay beyond his current spell at San Siro, and Milan have a plan to get that done.

This is what Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting on Tuesday, explaining that, as things stand, both Diaz and Dalot are set to return to Real Madrid and Manchester United come the end of the campaign.

The only way they can avoid that is if they ‘re-discuss the formula with their home clubs throughout the season’, which the Italian newspaper say ‘they absolutely intend to do’.

However, considering Diaz cost Real Madrid €17m and Dalot was a €22m expenditure for United, they could be expensive.

Asking out loud if it’s too much for Milan, Gazzetta believe it’s possible.

Qualification to the Champions League would go a long way to achieving that, as that would generate a strong income, and so would the decision to not renew Zlatan Ibrahimović if those in charge decide to go with talents rather than experience.

First, however, they need to sit down with Real Madrid and Manchester United, which hasn’t happened yet, and if they think that will be easy, they just need to ask AS Roma and everything they went through to get Chris Smalling.
