Reports from the Portuguese media continue to claim that Gedson Fernandes is on his way back to Benfica in the January transfer window.
The midfielder is loaned to Tottenham Hotspur until the end of the season, but it seems the Eagles made a request to have him back in Lisbon.
It was first Diário de Notícias who wrote about it in the morning, claiming the deal was ‘politically done’.
Now outlet A Bola reports it as well. They write that Benfica and Tottenham found an agreement for his return ‘a few days ago’.
Even though Gedson is joining Jorge Jesus’ squad, A Bola says Benfica could still find a new destination for the 21-year-old.
The midfielder only made one appearance under José Mourinho, and that was in Tottenham’s EFL Cup clash against Chelsea in September.
Spurs had a buying option of €50m over him, and there was some big hope in Lisbon that this purchase would be done, but, ultimately, that never ended up being the case.
