Southampton fans are probably familiar with the name of Joakim Maehle, who was heavily linked to the club by the start of the year.

It had been claimed that the Saints offered €12m to sign the Genk fullback, and even he confirmed the attempt afterwards.

Now it seems the Premier League side could be back for the 23-year-old, at least according to reports from the Italian media today.

Journalist Alfredo Pedulla brings a story highlighting the interest from Champions League side Atalanta in Maehle, but also points out that there’s still some heavy competition for his signing.

He writes that Olympique Marseille are one of the clubs who are interested in the player, and Southampton should make a new attempt as well, recalling that Genk ‘resisted’ to the Saints’ attempt in January.

Now if the St Mary’s side failed to get Maehle one year ago, we could only expect him to be more expensive this time, especially with this competition for his transfer.
