For the past few weeks, several reports from the Spanish media have been claiming that Barcelona were about to pay Liverpool a fee for an old move.
With Philippe Coutinho about to complete 100 appearances for the Camp Nou side, it was said many times that the Catalan club would now send the Reds a bonus of €20m.
The Brazilian started against Rayo Vallecano on Tuesday night, and despite reaching that milestone for Barça, a new report from Mundo Deportivo now dismisses those claims about the payment.
The outlet claims that sources from the current and former Barcelona board deny that such bonuses had been included in the deal.
The story confirms that Coutinho’s move from Anfield to Camp Nou was indeed agreed with several bonuses included, and Barcelona never wanted to make them public, but his 100th appearance isn’t one of those clauses.
The Brazilian left Liverpool for the La Liga giants on a €135m deal in January 2018.
In those 100 games at the Catalan side, he has 24 goals and 14 assists, as well as having spent a season on loan at Bayern Munich.
