A few days ago, we relayed news from Yahoo! Sport that Rangers were looking at Rennes defender Mexer to bolster their defence.
The Mozambique international’s contract is due to expire in June, and while Julien Stéphan, his manager, would like to keep him around, it seems the 30-year-old is set on trying something new.
Whether that’s at the Ibrox remains to be seen, but Euro United in France state he has the opportunity to move to Scotland and play under Steven Gerrard after Rangers offered him a three-year deal.
The Rennes defender is, however, said to prioritise a stay in France, and Bordeaux, now managed by Paulo Sousa, have also presented him with a contract.

Mexer is said to be ‘very interested’ by the project the southern club are putting together, and we’ll have to wait and see if that means Rangers are out of the picture.
This comes around the same time Steven Gerrard himself stated it was ‘unlikely’ they would sign the defender, so maybe they are.
