Since Leeds United signed Wilfried Gnonto from FC Zurich last summer, the Italian media had many stories about his potential return to his home country.

Local newspapers see big potential in the 19-year-old, and often wonder whether Serie A clubs will make a big to bring him back there.

Now even though Leeds only paid €4.5m to sign him, a future move would have a percentage going to FC Zurich. That was revealed by their Ancillo Canepa in a story from Blick.

“I’m sure Willy wants to continue playing in the Premier League. That has some revenue potential. I’ve always said that the transfer meets our expectations.

“The first part was cash. The second part is a fairly sizeable stake in an onward transfer.”

Canepa was then asked if FC Zurich’s percentage is ‘exceptionally high’, and confirmed it: “Yes!”.

In the past few months, a few Italian clubs have been linked to Gnonto. The most interested seem to be Inter Milan, who had him growing at their academy until releasing him in 2020.

With Leeds now relegated to the Championship, there’s the sense it would be easier to sign him from the Whites.

However, with reports claiming the youngster could cost just €10m, it seems like part of the Italian media is feeling too confident, as the Elland Road side will certainly make a bigger effort to hold him.
