Clement Lenglet joined Sevilla from Nancy in January 2017 and in 18 months, the defender has been one of the standout players for the Andalusian club.
We have carried reports from various sources about Barcelona’s interest in the 22-year-old. His performance against Manchester United over the two legs in the Champions League has impressed the La Liga winners.
On June 5th, L’Equipe reported that Jose Mourinho’s side are also interested in Lenglet and have made a “very concrete” approach for the Sevilla centre-back. France Football claimed Chelsea have joined the race to the Frenchman this summer.
Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia is close to the Blues owner Roman Abramovich. The report claims she met Lenglet’s agent in London on Wednesday to get an update on his client’s situation at Sevilla.
Now Chelsea interest is backed up by Seville newspaper Estadio Deportivo, who report there’s an ‘offer’ from the Premier League club.
Lenglet has a €35m release clause in his contract at Sevilla, which lasts until 2021. France Football also reports the player is still tracked by United, while Barcelona are ready to sanction Thomas Vermaelen’s sale to accommodate Lenglet in their squad.
