Chelsea have recently made an attempt to sign Independiente Del Valle teenager Kendry Paez, according to claims from Ecuador.

Journalist Eduardo Erazo revealed on De Una SF that the Blues were one of the clubs who recently tried to sign the 15-year-old.

It’s first reported that Borussia Dortmund made an attempt for a US$15m (£12.3m) deal, and that was turned down by Independiente. Then Chelsea offered US$18m (£14.8m), and had the same response.

Erazo highlights that the Blues are going strong for the best young talents in the world, investing heavily on players who are between 18 and 21.

Paez is even younger than that, but his potential shown at Independiente’s and Ecuador’s youth ranks has indeed been getting some attention lately.

Back in December, it had been the Argentine media who said Manchester United made an offer for the player. However, the Ecuadorian club knew they had a ‘jewel’ in their hands and chose to hold him at the time.

Now with the competition growing, Independiente only sound more certain they can make more with the teenager’s departure. Especially because he wouldn’t be able to move to Europe until he turns 18.
