Chelsea are yet to reach an agreement with Rennes for goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, despite reports to the contrary.

That’s according to RMC Sport, although they do say that both clubs are ‘optimistic’ that a deal can be reached.

The French goalkeeper has become a top target for Chelsea this summer, with Frank Lampard keen to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga after another disappointing campaign last year.

Reports over the last week have indicated that the goalkeeper was closing in on the move to Stamford Bridge, with L’Equipe reporting today that a deal was still on track.

There have also been claims that the two clubs had reached an agreement, but RMC Sport say that isn’t the case and there is ‘still no agreement’ between both clubs.

Their sources tell them that negotiations continue between and both parties are ‘optimistic about the success of the operation’ despite the ‘complexity’.

Quite what those difficulties are isn’t mentioned, but it’s always safe to assume that’s to do with the French club’s asking price and Chelsea wanting to negotiate it.

Whatever is complicating thing, the good news is that the tone from France is very much a positive one at this point, with all indications being that Chelsea will get their replacement for Kepa sooner rather than later.
