At the start of this year, we relayed news from Spain that Chelsea are ‘on the lookout’ for Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembélé.

Since then, there hasn’t been many reports, at least from the Catalan press, discussing the London club’s interest in the 23-year-old.

Wednesday’s edition of Sport has a report on the winger, focusing on his contract situation and the clubs that are trying to move for him.

With a contract expiring in 2022, an upturn in his form this season has convinced the La Liga side to offer him a three-year extension.

It’s claimed the Frenchman is happy and is willing to continue at the Camp Nou. However, his entourage has ‘many doubts’ because they believe the new deal will not meet their salary expectations.

Barca are keen to tie down the World Cup winner to a new deal and will try to seduce him by offering a ‘progressive economic proposal’.

Dembélé will have to take a decision in the ‘coming weeks’ and if he decides not to sign an extension, Barca will then look to offload him in the summer.

Ronald Koeman’s side are aware they will not be able to earn a lot from his sale after this season, but they will be forced to offload him [if he doesn’t sign an extension] for ‘unattractive figures’ in order to avoid losing him for free in 2022.

Chelsea and Juventus are in the picture for the former Borussia Dortmund man as these two clubs have been ‘very attentive’ of the wideman for several months.

At Barca, they suspect Juventus are behind the player’s decision to postpone contract negotiations.
