Last week, we covered reports from the Brazilian media which said Tottenham Hotspur had made a bid for Flamengo midfielder Gerson.
The offer has been labelled as ‘fake news’ by part of the local press, with claims saying €18m wouldn’t be enough to sign the player.
Now it turns out there’s another London side getting involved in this chase, as Chelsea are now called one of the ‘favourites’ to sign the 23-year-old.
Fox Sports confirms that last week, Flamengo had an offer of €18m on the table, which was not enough to take him.
But the Rio de Janeiro side currently have an official negotiating Gerson’s transfer in Europe, and now expect a bid of €35m for the player.
Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea are now considered to be the two clubs who are interested in the signing, and his staff hope they can take an offer to Flamengo in the coming weeks.
The amount of €35m is exactly how much the club demand to let the player go. Given the current financial crisis caused by the Coronavirus break, Flamengo would be happy to make a big sale.
