In the past 24 hours, rumours in the Brazilian and the English media have been claiming that Tottenham Hotspur are trying to sign Gerson from Flamengo.

Website Goal was the one with the biggest report, claiming that Spurs would be ready to spend £16m on the midfieider.

While their Brazilian version said the London side were ‘ready’ to offer that amount, their English report actually claimed the bid had already been rejected by Flamengo.

But journalist Mauro Cezar Pereira went after this story, and according to him, it’s nothing more than ‘fake news’.

Mauro Cezar Pereira claims Tottenham wouldn’t spend that much now, since Premier League sides are expected to wait until the tournament is back so they can have a better idea of their financial situation.

It’s also said that Flamengo have no intention of selling Gerson. Following his €11m move from Roma, the Rio de Janeiro side would only accept to let the midfielder go for double that, meaning a minimum of €22m.
